Pottery classes
Learn to be creative with clay in this mixed ability course, covering a range of techniques.
We run an eight-week evening course in pottery in the University's autumn and spring terms. The courses are open to Â鶹ֱ²¥ University students, staff and members of the public (age 16+).
They are suitable for all ability levels and usually take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings on campus. Whether you're a complete beginner or someone with previous ceramics experience you'll get to try out different techniques and use a range of tools in this pottery class.
Subject to tutor and room availability, we run a course over the summer, which can vary in length from six to ten weeks.
Pottery (Autumn 2026)
Join Nottinghamshire potter Emma Kimbley for our engaging evening class, which will cover old school studio pottery techniques with an exploration into more modern forms and decoration. During the course you will explore different hand building techniques such as slab building, coiling and sculpting, plus an introduction into wheel throwing. Once you’ve chosen your ‘specialism’, Emma will support you to develop your brief and use your new skills to see it come to life!
There will be surface decoration demonstrations throughout for further inspiration, alongside glazing tutorials.
All materials are included and the course is suitable for all ability levels, including beginners.
Course details
Classes will run every Tuesday and Friday, 6.30-9pm from w/c 19 October - w/c 7 December 2026. It is exactly the same content for both days, attendees choose which day to sign up for. The classes take place in Room 30 in the . This single storey building is located directly behind on the Â鶹ֱ²¥ College side of Epinal Way, opposite the main campus.

Parking
Visitors are required to register their vehicle and pay to park on campus. There is a flat evening rate of £2 after 6pm.

Accessibility
There is step-free access into the building. An accessible toilet is located along the ground floor corridor.

How to book
Priority booking for our mailing list subscribers will open on Thursday 17 September at 12pm. Following this, any remaining places will go on general sale (subject to availability) on Monday 21 September at 10am. To access the priority booking, please subscribe to our mailing list by 9am on Monday 14 September.
Bookings are online only via Eventbrite. Please be aware that demand for places at these classes is very high.
Refunds and Cancellations
We will issue refunds for cancellations (minus Eventbrite fees) up to seven days prior to the first class, but no refunds will subsequently be issued unless a class is cancelled and cannot be re-arranged.
Tutor - Emma Kimbley
Emma Kimbley is a Nottinghamshire potter specialising in wheel throwing and all things hand building. Emma uses old school studio pottery techniques with an exploration into more modern forms and decoration in her teaching.
Emma also runs Pots & Pints events in Nottingham, teaches wheel throwing privately and attends shows with her ceramic work, alongside running her own small business makers shop!
